On September 8th, the feast day of the Virgin of the Pine, patron saint of the island of Gran Canaria, is celebrated. It is one of the most special and important times of the year for all Gran Canarians. On the evening of the 7th, the road is closed and the pilgrimage takes place, where thousands of people walk from Tamaraceite to Teror, some from the Cathedral of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to the Basilica of the Town of Teror.
On the 8th, during the day, offerings are made to the Virgin, where representatives from each town on the island bring and give food and gifts for the Virgin. It is a day of celebration but also of spirituality and belief in our values as Canarians, Christians, on this wonderful island in the middle of the Atlantic.
