The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated every year on August 15th. It is a religious holiday that commemorates the ascension of the body of Mary, the mother of Jesus of Nazareth, into heaven after her days on earth were over.
In Spain, the date is considered a holiday on the working calendar, and this year, as it falls on a Friday and coincides with the weekend, it will be one of the busiest days of summer vacation departures and arrivals.
Many foreign residents return to their countries to take advantage of the good weather there to visit family or friends, and many Canarians end or begin their summer vacations on that day. Many of them choose Fuerteventura as an idyllic and nearby location full of endless turquoise beaches, sea caves, huge pools or lakes on beaches like Sotavento, or wild beaches like Cofete. Tranquility, sports, family time, and lots of sea.
It’s also the day we celebrate the Virgin of La Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands, whose temple is on the island of Tenerife, so it’s a double celebration.
We’ll be offering the 24/7 pass that day for those who have it and work at Soppa.
